The Freeport Police Department (48 sworn officers) is adding to its crime-fighting arsenal with a new mobile app, developed by tip411, to help residents connect with the department to find information, view alerts, and submit anonymous tips.
“An illegally parked car, it could be a problem house in a neighborhood, it could be, you know, maybe something happened on the streets,” said Freeport Police Chief Matthew Summers. “Somebody doesn’t want to come forward and say something, they could send a tip to an officer.”
Tips submitted are 100% anonymous, as the technology removes all identifying information before police see the tips.
“This will give an avenue where there’s no way the police department will ever know who’s sending a tip in,” Summers said.
“Everyone plays an important part in helping to make our city safe, beautiful, and a great place to live, work, and play, and that’s why I believe our new Freeport PD app will be an important tool in that work.”
The Freeport PD mobile app is available to download for free from the Google Play Store and the iTunes App Store. Citizens can also submit an anonymous text tip via their cell phone by texting keyword “FREEPORTPD” and their message/tip to 847411.
